How it works

Enter dimensions or a known area, choose imperial or metric units, set thickness and waste, and optionally provide a custom density or price per ton. The result shows US short tons, metric tonnes, area, volume, and cost when selected.

Limitations

The estimate depends on the density and waste assumptions. Actual asphalt mix, compaction, site conditions, supplier pricing, taxes, delivery, and labor can change the final quantity and cost.

Reference ranges

Typical residential thickness
A driveway often uses about 2–3 inches of asphalt, while parking areas may need 3–4 inches depending on use and base conditions.
Standard density
The default density is 145 lb/ft³ for a typical hot-mix asphalt estimate. Confirm the mix density with your supplier when accuracy matters.
Waste allowance
A 5–10% allowance is a common planning range, but the right value depends on site shape, edges, access, and compaction.

Yes. Select Cost mode and enter the price per ton. The estimate multiplies the calculated short tons by that price.

The volume-to-weight calculation can also be used for reclaimed asphalt, but recycled mixes may have a different density, so adjust the custom density when needed.
