About this calculator

Method, formulas, and limits.

What this does

Counts elapsed calendar days between two dates and provides a weeks-and-days breakdown plus an estimate of weekdays in the range.

Who it is for

Project planners, students, travelers, payroll teams, event organizers, and anyone comparing deadlines or date ranges.

How it works

The default result counts the difference from the start date up to, but not including, the end date. Enabling the inclusive option adds the end date to both calendar and weekday counts.

Limitations

Business-day counts exclude Saturdays and Sundays but do not remove public holidays, company closures, or local working-day exceptions.

Key calculations

Elapsed days
days = end date − start date
Inclusive days
inclusive days = end date − start date + 1
Week breakdown
weeks = floor(days / 7), remaining days = days mod 7
Business days
Count weekdays in the selected date interval; weekends are excluded.

Reference ranges

Exclusive counting
A range from January 1 to January 10 is 9 elapsed days when the end date is excluded.
Inclusive counting
The same range is 10 calendar days when both January 1 and January 10 count.
Business days
Weekday counts exclude Saturday and Sunday but do not account for holidays.

How to use it

  1. 1.Choose the start dateEnter the first date in the range.
  2. 2.Choose the end dateEnter the final date. The end date must be on or after the start date.
  3. 3.Select inclusive countingTurn on the option when both endpoint dates should count.
  4. 4.Compare the outputsUse elapsed days for exact date differences and business days for weekday planning.

Enter the dates and leave inclusive counting off for the standard elapsed difference. The calculator reports the day count and weeks remainder.

Exclusive counting does not count the end date. Inclusive counting adds the end date, which is useful for schedules where both endpoints are work or event days.

No. It excludes Saturdays and Sundays only. Add local holidays and company closures separately for a production schedule.

No. Reverse the dates if you need a positive duration; the calculator flags a reversed range instead of returning a misleading number.
