About this calculator
Method, formulas, and limits. What this does
Estimates a puppy's adult weight, shoulder height, and body length using breed-specific growth curves for 19 popular breeds, or a size-category curve for mixed breeds. Includes a projected growth chart from 4 to 52 weeks and a printable report.
Who it is for
New puppy owners, breeders, and vets who want a science-based estimate of how big a puppy will get, or who need a printable growth report for a new litter.
How it works
Enter the puppy's current age (4–52 weeks), current weight, and optional height and length. For purebreds the calculator uses the breed's standard ranges and growth curve; for mixed breeds it uses the selected size category. The estimate formula is: Adult Weight = (Current Weight / Growth%) × Gender Factor.
Limitations
Estimates are based on breed averages and growth-curve models — individual puppies vary. Nutrition, health, and genetics can change the final adult size. Height and length estimates are less accurate than weight.
Key calculations
- Adult Weight
- Adult Weight = (Current Weight / Growth%) × Gender Factor
- Growth %
- The fraction of adult weight reached at the puppy's current age, per breed curve.
- Gender Factor
- 1.0 for males, 0.875 for females — females typically finish 10–15% lighter.
Reference ranges
- Growth Completion
- Most puppies reach 50% of adult weight by 4-5 months and are near adult size by 12-14 months. Giant breeds grow for up to 24 months.
- Size Categories
- Toy: under 18 lbs. Small: 18-32 lbs. Medium: 32-55 lbs. Large: 55-95 lbs. Giant: 95+ lbs.
- Breed Variation
- Within-breed variation is typically ±10-15% of adult weight. Mixed-breed estimates have wider uncertainty.
How to use it

- 4.Print the reportUse Print Report to save a PDF with the puppy's info and projected size.
For purebred puppies, estimates are usually within 10-15% of the actual adult weight when the puppy's age and weight are entered accurately. Mixed-breed estimates have wider uncertainty because the adult size depends on the parent breeds.
Small breeds finish growing around 10-12 months, medium breeds by 12-14 months, and large or giant breeds can keep growing until 18-24 months. Most puppies reach about 80% of their adult weight by 8 months.
Follow the feeding guidelines on your puppy food package, which are based on expected adult weight and age. Recalculate the estimate monthly as the puppy grows, and ask your vet for a personalized feeding plan.
