Keep liability separate from withholding

A planning estimate, not a tax return

The annual calculator applies federal brackets, standard deductions, a simplified dependent credit, FICA, and explicitly supported state estimates. It does not reuse paycheck withholding as if it were final liability.

Tax model assumptions

Federal tables use the project's 2025/2026 tax-year configuration. State support begins with Georgia, Illinois, Ohio, and Virginia estimates; unsupported states are disclosed instead of assigned a generic rate.

Tax rules change. Confirm the current IRS and state instructions or speak with a tax professional before filing or making payments.

Tax questions

Is this the same as paycheck withholding?

No. Annual liability and payroll withholding answer different questions. The Paycheck Calculator remains the withholding estimate.

Which states are supported?

The first phase includes Georgia, Illinois, Ohio, and Virginia. Unsupported states are not assigned a made-up rate.

Does the calculator include every tax credit?

No. It includes a simplified dependent credit but excludes many credits, local taxes, AMT, NIIT, self-employment tax, and detailed itemized deductions.

Method, formulas, and limits.

What this does

The Tax Calculator converts the inputs you provide into a documented estimate with visible assumptions.

Who it is for

Anyone who wants a quick planning check before opening a spreadsheet or consulting a qualified professional.

How it works

The calculation runs locally in the browser using a pure TypeScript calculation function and the selected assumptions.

Limitations

Annual tax liability is different from paycheck withholding. This simplified estimate excludes many credits, local taxes, self-employment rules, and filing-specific details.

Key calculations

Transparent model
Inputs are normalized, calculated locally, and displayed with the underlying estimate rather than hidden rounding.
